Thomas R. Nides
Thomas R. Nides (b. ca. 1961〔According to (this profile from ''The Washington Post'' ), Nides was 49 in 2010.〕) is the former United States Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, having assumed that office on January 3, 2011 and departed office in to assume a role with Morgan Stanley in February, 2013.

Thomas R. Nides was born in Duluth, Minnesota and educated at the University of Minnesota.〔(Profile from State Dept. )〕
From 1986 to 1989, Nides was chief of staff of Rep. Tony Coelho (D—CA-15).〔(Profile from LittleSis )〕 He was next chief of staff of Rep. Tom Foley (D—WA-5) from 1989 to 1993, and in 1994, he served as chief of staff of United States Trade Representative Mickey Kantor.〔
Nides joined Fannie Mae as Senior Vice President of Human Resources in 1998, holding this position until 2001.〔 He was then Chief Administrative Officer of Credit Suisse USA from 2001 to 2004.〔 From 2005 to 2010, he was Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Stanley.〔
President of the United States Barack Obama nominated Nides to be Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources on September 29, 2010.〔(White House Press Release, Sept. 29, 2010 )〕 He was confirmed by the Senate on December 22, 2010, and sworn into office on January 3, 2011.〔
